Refs, replays and rebranding

posted under Branding on 09 Jul 2010

It’s been such an exciting month, being in Joburg and experiencing all this football fever, it’s amazing how our country came together to celebrate and support our players and foreign teams. This month the brand of South Africa was put in the spotlight and from the reviews I’ve heard it’s come out on top and with better feedback than anyone expected. The overall responses to this event, the people and the country have been a resounding WOW with many people wanting to return.

So with that in mind let’s chat about your brand and why it’s so important that what you plan to achieve is what people perceive…

Run, jump and…CRAWL!

Right, starting your business and need a logo. Urgently. Like yesterday!

You’ve worked out your business plan (or at least some semblance of it on the back of an envelope), set up some potential customer meetings for your new business venture and already have office space in the heart of your customer hub. But wait, you can’t go ahead until you have the most important thing – your logo! Everything, and I mean everything, is dependent on that. Your business card, letterhead, signage, brochures, the list goes on.

Get your mind out of the office box

When Julie approached me from Qualitative Quarter she felt it was time for a rebrand and wanted to break out more into the market place. Qualitative Quarter already has some well known clients like Microsoft, Proctor and Gamble, Ellerines and many others. So Julie wanted to keep her corporate clients but also open her doors to the more creative types that wanted a space to brainstorm and have focus groups in a relaxing, fun environment.

With this in mind I began the process…

Trash the splash page

Recently I’ve had many requests for splash pages on websites which got me thinking…

Why do people need to be told to enter a website? Splash pages used to be a big thing a while back but seem to have been phased out as they don’t do very much for your website. However many people believe that it’s important to have your logo spread across the screen or an intro animation which describes your company. Some may give you the option to choose between viewing the site in flash or html but others are purely there just waiting for you to bypass them.

This blog post is long overdue, but happy new year to all my clients and readers and all the best for 2010. 2009 was a very busy year where I worked in various industries (some of them being fashion, photography, art, research, retail, solutions, production, consulting) helping my clients develop web strategies and design campaigns to increase their brand awareness. Some clients approached me with full rebranding requirements, (I will publish those success stories very soon) one of those clients was Qualitative Quarter and the site has been nomintated for best website of 2009. Another one of my sites which has already received many web awards has also been nominated for best website of 2009.
